The decarbonization project of Ibero Massa Florestal S.A. is an investment co-financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), aiming to foster sustainable economic growth and reinforce the goal of convergence with Europe over the next decade.
Ibero Massa Florestal plans to implement a Self-Consumption Production Unit (UPAC) with photovoltaic panels of 280 kWp and electrify five pieces of equipment currently powered by diesel (three forklifts, one crane, and one wood-cutting machine). This project will eliminate diesel consumption at the facilities and, with the UPAC, offset the new electricity demands. The unit is expected to produce 314,434 kWh annually, of which 57.1% (179,680 kWh) will be allocated for self-consumption.
The investment will be completed by the end of 2023, with a direct impact on energy consumption and emissions accounted for starting in 2024. The implemented measures are estimated to reduce energy consumption by approximately 68.97% and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 75.54%.
The project will also contribute to the company's competitiveness, reducing energy costs and increasing the use of renewable energy sources. The investment will also have a positive impact on the environment, reducing GHG emissions and promoting the transition to a low-carbon economy.
